The Way I Saw The World Yesterday

February 4, 2007

Hmm, as I know it, I am not so much of a picture blogger, but today, I’ll add a little bit of photo spice to it. This post is again a post of no genre and is in chronological order according to what I saw and experienced yesterday. Besides, I have stumbled upon too many blog postings of people camwhoring and then posting photos where they do not belong. So much so, the only reason I read on was to look at the photos and see if there were any interesting items I can spot. At least if the photos were there to compliment the texts, they would have made a very nice post, but no, it’s just there because the author just wanted to show them.

So I thought, it was about high time I got myself geared with photos to compliment my post as well, so this is it. The photos are not so good though, since I am no professional photographer so don’t expect fancy angles and lightings. Some of the photographs are even blur due to night shots. It’s sucha shame but what the heck. LOL.
Anyway, back to today, I woke up unfortunately to work on a Saturday. Yes, I still have to work half a day on a Saturday, officially that is, but off the record, I still work one full day. :) So yes, woke up, got ready and rushed down to the kopitiam to grab myself a quick breakfast.

breakfast.JPG

See, a poor guy like me does not indulge in luxurious breakfasts, so for me, it’s only a taosa pau and a teh peng. What else? Because I can’t afford ba… I seldom take breakfast, if you must know. Foreigners often have this impression that Malaysians love their breakfast but it doesn’t work that way for me. The reason I am taking breakfasts nowadays though is because I fear my gastric will strike again. Yes, I am big in size but I still get gastric OK, I am still human after all. Anyway, the breakfast only lasted a meagre 10 minutes and I was off to the office after that.

theplace.JPG

Nothing distant though, it’s actually just 5 minutes walk from my condo, or less. Looking at the photo above, I just noticed, advertisers have indulged in a new way to advertise their stuffs. The sign posts and the lamp post are being utilized fully for advertising. BRAVO!!!

Basically, the whole morning was work, work, work and work. Pretty hectic for a Saturday morning, I have to say and I won’t bore you with my work details. I have sworn before that I wouldn’t write a typical entry choreographing my day to day life but again, it isn’t the intention of this post to do that. This post was meant to illustrate my thinkings of the day as I went through it.

theplace2.JPG

Come lunch time, I just felt very “pictorial” so I brought my camera along for lunch. I came across this bush, well not exactly bush, where a dog has been hiding for quite sometime with her puppies. As I stood in position ready to take pictures of her and her puppy, I dared not hold my camera up in an abrupt manner fearing that the mother would just come charging at me, thinking I was trying to harm its puppies. I slowly raised my camera, and thanks to the 10X optical zoom, I took a close up shot from a distance.

dog.JPG

Trust me, you don’t wanna mess with a dog especially when it is protecting it’s young. It got me thinking, even animals have motherly instinct. Isn’t god’s creation just wonderful? Well, with the exception that animal instincts aren’t as good as human’s.

puppy.JPG

Lunch came after that and I took a quick one then headed back to office once again. By then, no one was to be seen in the office anymore, except me but I am pretty used to that already so it was alright. Then something struck me and got me thinking, since I have been working day and night for the past week, why not take some time off and go for a movie or something, right?

bush.JPG

The picture right above is where the dog and it’s puppies are hiding, right under the shady leaves. Anyway later in the evening, I headed down to The Curve and I have to say, The Curve is pretty jam packed with people nowadays. It’s gaining popularity by the days. People come here mainly for the food and atmosphere most of the time though. Of course, there is always the flea market every Saturday and Sunday (which is expanding in “network”).

thecurve.JPG

I have to say the management of The Curve is pretty creative though, when it comes to decorating for occasions and seasons. They used a blue theme for Christmas and now the red theme for Chinese New Year. Speaking of which, Chinese New Year is around the corner but I haven’t exactly started feeling the mood yet, probably due to excessive work. :(

thecurve2.JPG

It was pretty crowded since it was a Saturday evening and the flea market was everywhere. This was also the very place Kenny bought his RM500 paintings that his mother denounced as a waste of money. Besides, HSBC was promoting their credit cards and so had set up stages as well as functions for its loyal credit card holders, making the night even more happening.

liondance.JPG

HSBC also hired lion dancers to dance all the way from Ikano, The Curve as well as Cineleisure. The 3 groups of lions eventually met up somewhere in front of Cineleisure’s main entrance. If you noticed the smiling “I don’t know what you call that”, I thought the mask was kinda cute and adorable.

liondance2.JPG

Speaking of which, HSBC talked me into getting another credit card. As if I haven’t enough credit cards already, I took another one. Well, I was just attracted by the discount offers the card has to offer, so I took it. After all, there are no obligations to use it for the first 2 years and I can cancel off the card after 2 years, so I thought, what the heck.

By then, it was almost 8 pm and I was starting to get a little hungry. Quite frankly, I have ran out of places to eat. Mamak doesn’t taste nice to me anymore. I have been taking mamak food ever since the day I set foot on KL. I decided on the yummy, quick KFC since it has been ages since I last took one of those.

kfc.JPG

I made it a fast one as well and headed for Borders Bookshop at The Curve to read some magazines. The interesting thing is that you can actually grab some magazines and just sit down and read them. You end up not buying them but that’s a good thing, innit? Ya la, I know la, I am a cheapskate and you people ain’t.

cnydecor.JPG

After all that, it was only then that I headed over to Cineleisure for my movie. My initial plan was to watch Stranger Than Fiction but because the seating wasn’t good, I finally decided on Blood and Chocolate. It isn’t exactly the most exciting movie to date but still, it’s watchable.

Cineleisure is starting to grow in terms of operation. I have seen it grown from the start where it was just opened for business and the only thing around back then was Cathay Cineplex. Of course, other outlets started moving in slowly. At the time, things didn’t seem promising but looking at how it’s operating now, I am pretty confident it’s gonna do fine. Bravo to the first few who decided on opening an outlet there. That was a good business decision and it got them good spots in the building.

cineleisure.JPG

Now that I remembered one thing, I was trying to take a shot of Cathay Cineplex and a guy came to me and said no photography was allowed without prior consent from the management. I was just thinking, why is it so wrong to take a photo of the cineplex lobby? Was it because you fear me plotting a bomb inplant on the place? Or was it because you feared me talking bad about the place, online or otherwise?

It’s just stupid OK! This “NO PHOTOGRAPHY WITHIN THIS ZONE” thing is just bull crap. I can’t see the logic behind it all. So are you saying, I cannot capture happy moments of me and my loved one at that particular place just for memories? If it’s people’s private home, I can understand why not to take pictures, but hey, no pictures in areas I consider as open (albeit it being a private area) is just absurd. Hey, you opened your office to the public, it’s a cineplex OK!

Enough of that already. What really made my day was this. There is this place near the place I work which teaches dancing. They call it a ballet academy though. Everything is fine but…

nutcracker.JPG

AKADEMI BALET NUTCRACKER is just hillarious. What nuts did they think of cracking? WAHAHAHAHAHAHA… You guys better be careful out there if you have any friends learning ballet. Apparently, they can crack nuts, if the skills this academy is teaching is really true, that is. WAHAHAHAHA… Anyway, that’s the end of my boring Saturday so cheers people.

Laundry Bar

January 12, 2007

Last night, I went to Laundry Bar at The Curve. Excuse me, not the bar where you do your laundry hor? It’s a bar where you sit down and drink hor? :D

I notice a lot of hot, and I mean hot, chics going to clubs. Ladies, can I ask you one thing? Where are you girls during ordinary times? Is it just me being ignorant or are you girls hiding from me? Hehe…

Anyway, a lady was asking me “Is this seat taken?” and I was so deaf I couldn’t hear her and I went “Huh?” 3 times! How much more embarrassing can it get?

I was basically there to meet up with a long lost friend of mine, Ivan. Being a blogger who does not camwhore a lot, I didn’t bother bringing my camera along. I don’t want to be bringing my bulky camera along to a bar. Perhaps I should consider getting a smaller camera for that purpose.

I know of one person who is so envious of us being able to meet up in KL and he can’t. :P Anyway, going to a club and not drinking is like getting into a car and not driving. So I intended to get myself a glass of Tiger, you know, the world goes the way of the tiger. The bartender pointed to a lager which I thought was Tiger and I ended up having this…

beer.jpg

I am not a hard core drinker. I am more of an occasional drinker. Other than drinking at clubs, I don’t usually drink. I mean, beer doesn’t taste as nice as the adverts make it taste. The drink you saw above tastes slightly more bitter than normal golden beer. Nonetheless its for real men

beerquote.jpg

See? I am sorry about the picture quality. A phone camera that doesn’t have auto focus sucks but it reads, “Bold, Distinctive, Full of Character, Just Like The Men Who Drink It”. See? I drink it, I am so full of character. :D The drink is also so full of character as well because it made me RM26.90 poorer.

I bet the drink is so full of character this sissy couldn’t take it…

thm.JPG

Why? Because he goes to bed 10.30pm every night and he has to take his fruits everyday without fail and he complains that he has insufficient sleep because he missed 30 minutes of sleep time chatting with me. SUPER DUPER SISSY OK!

Mate, don’t take what I say seriously, I was just kidding. You know me, I cannot survive a day without sarcastically teasing you. ;)

All in all, I finished my one day’s earning in a night. That’s bad, VERY BAD! Thank goodness I do not do this very often else, I’d go bankrupt in no time. It was worth it though, just to be able to meet up with a long lost friend. ;)

Kuching Festival 2006

August 20, 2006

Out of boredom, I went to the Kuching Festival last weekend. Yes, it was the same old festival that happens annually in Kuching. Every year, it’s more or less the same thing. Some get sick of it and do not bother. I, on the other hand, was there to enjoy the crowd and the variety of food it had to offer, not so much because I love the fair.

dsc00400.JPG

As usual, the crowd that weekend was stupendously horrible, not to mention some couldn’t even walk properly and had to be blocking every single way there was for me to get through. Even when they wanted to take their leisure time peeking at what had to be offered by booths, the just had to freaking stop right in the middle of the walk way where everyone was walking. Ab-fuckin-solutely annoying, OK!

Anyway, as usual, people opened up stalls offering a variety of food ranging from Chinese, Korean and all the way to local delicacies. Yew Char Kuay, Sio Bi, Lok Lok, Seafood, fried chicken, KFC, friend ice cream, pretty girls and many more. You name it, we’ve got it. ;)

Before any food, I just wanted to see what they had on display at the fair. As usual, cars were on display. Ford, Proton, Naza, Suzuki, Honda and Toyota were all there. Yes, contrary to popular belief, we do not travel on wild boars. We travel on cars way better than some of you might expect!!!

travelonthis1.jpg

The next thing I noticed, which seems to be the trend nowadays, were credit card booths. This was rather disturbing to me as it felt like as if banks and credit card companies were shouting, “Come come, have a look at our cards. They are so good, they can lend you few thousands of cash when you need it the most. You can pay back later. If you can’t afford it, we’ll kick your ass all the way back to China.” They look more like legal loan sharks to me. More often than not, banks are there to help you when you don’t need it the most and no, you don’t get any help when you need it the most. Try approaching a credit card booth and tell them you do not have a source of income and tell them you wanna apply for a credit card. I bet you a hundred bucks they will tell you to FUCK OFF!!! right in your face. Thank you very much!

As for the rest of what was on display I’ll just let the pictures do the talking.

dsc00398.JPG

As I said, you name it, we’ve got it. Even alarm systems were on display.

dsc00396.JPG

Cars and that’s Ford’s booth by the way.

dsc00397.JPG

Pardon the picture quality. I was shaking when I was taking these pictures and I was using a K750i. <_<
Nonetheless, aircond, anyone? It was damn hot that night. Guess this stall must have had quite a number of visitors that night.

dsc00399.JPG

Anyone wants to get married? Photographing services are being offered as well! Beats me to it. What was a wedding photography booth actually doing at the fair? It just doesn’t blend, well at least to me. :)

After all of that, which was like less than half an hour, I proceeded to the food section. I heard of this particular stall selling friend chicken. Being curious about what was so great, I headed over to Uncle Bob Fried Chicken. Hmm, they didn’t sell chicken wings and neither did they sell drumsticks. They sold chicken boobs breast, which they claimed was as smooth as drumstick. Huh?!?! As smooth as drumstick? Since when was chicken meat smooth? This I have got to try. Perhaps they meant as tender as drumstick?

dsc00403.JPG

Turned out, it was just OK. I meant the taste and of course after tasting it, I agreed that it’s as smooth as drumstick. So next time, you guys can try Uncle Bob without skin, without chicken fat errr.. chicken boobs breast?

I also saw this Roti Tissue being served at the fair. In case you haven’t noticed, roti tissue is just a piece of roti (I don’t know what you call it) which is so thin that it looks like a piece of tissue paper, hence the name Roti Tissue. Now, it could just be me, but if compared to the ones being served in KL, our Kuching version of the Roti Tissue is pathetically puny!!!

dsc00404.JPG

Last but not least, who could miss the Sio Bi stall? That’s the infamous Kuching Sio Bi. For those who do not know, Kuching Sio Bi is one of a kind. No, it doesn’t taste anything like those Sio Bi or Siew Mai (in cantonese) that you have for Dim Sum. I don’t know how to describe it. You have just got to taste for yourself.

dsc00402.JPG

Oh, in case you haven’t notice, the one in front, that’s my brother. Ya ya, he doesn’t look anything like me. I have heard that a gazillion times, so enough of that already.

To sum things up, it was the usual fair held annually to liven up the lovely city of Kuching. Nothing new to me but like I said, I went there for the crowd and also for the food. Meantime, stay tune and take care. Cheers.:)
